A forestry mulcher (also called a brush cutter, vegetation mulcher, or land clearing attachment) is a hydraulic attachment mounted on an excavator, skid steer, or wheel loader. It uses a high-speed rotor fitted with carbide-tipped or forged-steel cutting teeth to shred trees, brush, stumps, and roots into small wood chips in a single pass — eliminating the need for burning or separate chipping operations.
HCN excavator mulchers (mounted on 13–35 tonne carriers) can process trees up to 600 mm trunk diameter in a single pass. Skid steer mulchers handle up to 200 mm diameter material.
